“Write me a proposal for this grant” is the worst prompt in grant writing. It asks the model to do six jobs at once — read the guidelines, pick the facts, structure the argument, write, check, and fit the length — and it will do all six at an average level while hiding which one went wrong.
The drafter you build here splits those jobs into stages, each with its own prompt and its own check. The output of one stage is the input of the next, and a person looks at every handoff. It takes longer than a single prompt the first time and much less time than rewriting a single prompt’s output.
