Set up your organization profile

Your profile powers matching, eligibility checks and landscape scans. Mission is the one field that matters most — everything else sharpens the results.

Describe your organization once and every personalized feature works from it — matching, eligibility checks, and full funding-landscape scans. You do not repeat your mission on every request.

The one field that matters

Mission. One sentence, concrete. “Youth STEM education programs for underserved middle schoolers in Oakland” works far better than “improving outcomes for communities.”

If you fill in nothing else, fill in this.

Fields that sharpen results

FieldWhy it helps
Applicant typenonprofit, for-profit, municipality, tribal, individual or academic — decides which programs you are eligible for at all
Geography“Fresno, CA”, “Iowa”, “national” — place names are canonicalized for you
501(c)(3) statusGates a large share of foundation funding
Sectore.g. healthcare, clean energy
NAICS code2–6 digits, used for contract fit
Annual budgetFunders often size awards to organizational capacity
Year foundedSome programs restrict by organizational age

Certifications unlock contract set-asides

If you hold contracting certifications — 8A, WOSB, EDWOSB, HUBZONE, SDVOSB, VOSB, SDB — add them. They are cross-referenced against set-aside eligibility when OpenGrants scans government contracts, and without them a whole category of opportunity stays invisible.

This is the most commonly skipped field on the profile and the one that changes results the most for businesses.

Updates are partial

Send only the fields you are adding or changing; everything else is kept. You do not have to re-enter the whole profile to correct one value.

You can clear your stored profile at any time.

What good looks like

A profile with mission, applicant type, geography and — for businesses — certifications and a NAICS code will produce noticeably better matches than mission alone. It takes about two minutes and it is the highest-leverage setup step in the product.
